WELCOME

sarah-cliffe-holistic-therapist-pic

My name is Sarah Cliffe, I am a fully qualified and insured Clinical Reflexologist and Reiki Practitioner. My aim is to provide a service which enhances both the physical and mental health of my clients, utilising the complementary therapies of Reflexology, Reiki, and Aromatherapy. To help my clients achieve maximum benefit from their treatments, I provide a welcoming and relaxing atmosphere in my beautiful treatment room which is nestled in the Cheshire countryside.

Today’s world can be so hectic especially as I write this in 2020, stress, anxiety, deadlines, juggling parenting with work or caring for other family members, social distancing, and a lack of that all-important physical contact. Its sometimes hard to find a balance. We often find our own well-being at the bottom of the list and then wonder why our health suffers, that’s where I come in, regular holistic therapy can act as a form of preventative healthcare, encouraging relaxation and healing in the body boosting the immune system, eliminating toxins and maintaining the body’s natural balance. I know all too well that Life can be so overwhelming at times, that it’s hard to know when to stop, take a breath and think about yourself for a change. Its so important to look after your mental and emotional well-being.

I completed my level 5 Mastership Diploma in Practitioner Reflexology. It is the highest level of Reflexology training in the UK. This training included NEPIP, Fertility, Maternity and post pregnancy, Meridians, Palliative and Cancer Care, as well as much more.

“Restoring balance in Physical & Mental Health”

More of us than ever are choosing to take a more natural and holistic approach to our health and well-being. I am passionate about enabling my clients to do this, treating the whole body in order to get to the root cause of their symptoms or condition, ensuring that any change is long-term or permanent.

All of my therapies are extremely gentle, making them suitable for anyone of any age - and for whatever stage they are at in their lives. What unites them all is their holistic approach in treating the whole body rather than just the symptoms, condition, or situation.

My clients come to me for a variety of reasons; some because they need the time out to relax and recharge, but many because they are facing conditions, symptoms or situations that they want support with, please see my reviews.

 REFLEXOLOGY   REFLEXOLOGY

REFLEXOLOGY

Why not try one of the following specialist reflexology treatments that are available:

Clinical Reflexology

Reflexology is a holistic/complimentary therapy based on the belief that there are reflex areas in the hands, feet and face which are believed to correspond to all organs and parts in the body. There are over 7000 nerve endings in the feet. Working on an individual basis reflexology may alleviate and improve symptoms such as everyday stress and tension.

During your first session a medical history will be taken, shoes and socks will be removed then you will take a seat in my comfortable lafuma chair. People worry about how their feet look; it really doesn’t matter. Once in the chair I wipe the feet with warm cloths to remove any bits, fluff off socks etc. It's also a chance to have a good look at the feet, notice any tension or heat difference.

Reflexology is one of the world’s oldest complementary therapies and has its routes in all the ancient civilisations of the world. While it is only now that the benefits of reflexology are beginning to be scientifically assessed, initial research is indicating that it can have positive benefits for a wide range of conditions and situations.

By gently pressing or massaging key areas of the hands or feet that relate to corresponding areas of the body, I work with the body’s unique ability to bring itself back into balance naturally, encouraging positive changes to situations and conditions on a physical, emotional and mental level.

  • What are the benefits of reflexology?
  • Can anyone have reflexology?
  • What happens during a treatment?
  • How many treatments will I need?
  • Price of a Reflexology treatment?

Though there is not yet a large enough body of evidence to make scientific claims about the benefits of reflexology, there is some research beginning to take place that is showing positive results. All I can really be sure of are the benefits experienced by my clients. Often after a treatment people feel more relaxed and less tense, some find that they sleep better and that their mood and sense of well-being is improved. After a series of treatments these benefits can be more profound with many finding that their physical, mental, and emotional health has improved enormously.

  • Learning the importance of relaxation to their emotional, physical, and mental health and well-being
  • Alleviation of back pain, joint and / or muscle aches and pains
  • An increased ability to deal with stress and anxiety
  • Improved digestive function - including constipation and IBS
  • Alleviation of common childhood complaints including colic, teething, headaches, tummy ache, and constipation
  • Menopausal symptoms
  • Alleviation of mood
  • Improved sleep
  • General overall improvement in physical, emotional, and mental health and well-being.

If you want to find out more about how reflexology might be able to help you or a member of your family, then please contact me for a confidential chat on 07854882902 or use the contact form

Reflexology is suitable for all ages, including babies and children, and there are very few situations in which reflexology is not suitable, including during pregnancy. And, you don’t need to feel unwell or under the weather to have reflexology; the treatment is a great for the mind, body and soul, however you feel, providing regular maintenance to promote continued health and well-being.

My treatments are always tailored to you, and I take a holistic approach by looking at physical, emotional, and environmental factors that may be affecting your well-being. I, along with any professionally trained reflexologist, will never claim to cure, diagnose, or prescribe, and we work alongside conventional medical treatment - never against or in place of.

A typical reflexology session lasts around an hour, although your first session will be longer as we will have a consultation before beginning your treatment. During the consultation we will talk about what has brought you to reflexology, which will involve a discussion about your lifestyle, diet, and medical history. This consultation is important as it enables me to fully understand any health concerns, conditions, and situations that may be affecting you, and it allows both of us to gain a better understanding of how reflexology might be able to help.

This is then followed by the treatment - you will normally relax back in my reflexology chair (a couch is also available), and I will work on your bare feet. I always warm the feet with hot towels, I do this to remove any fluff and warm the feet ready for the treatment. Alternatively I can work on your hands.

Most people benefit from more than one reflexology treatment, but different people respond in different ways, as do the different conditions and situations that you might be seeking help for, as well as how long they have been present - i.e. is it recent or has it been on-going for some time? Although I will indicate what I think the frequency and number of treatments are that you would benefit from at the end of your first treatment, we will work together to agree the best treatment plan for you.

Reflexology Lymphatic drainage (RLD)

Breast Cancer is the most common cancer in the UK. According to Cancer Research UK (2011), the lifetime risk of developing it in the UK is 1:8 for women and 1:1014 for men. Approximately 20% of these patients develop secondary lymphoedema of the arm following treatment for breast cancer.

Lymphoedema is defined as tissue swelling due to the failure of lymph drainage. After breast cancer a person may experience psychological or emotional difficulties due to altered body image, and a swollen limb can exacerbate this. Research suggests that survivors with lymphoedema are more likely to suffer psychological and emotional difficulties, be more disabled, and experience a poorer quality of life than survivors without the condition. Improved breast cancer survival rates suggest that approximately 2:3 women survive the disease beyond 20 years. This means that more people are living longer with this debilitating side effect for which there is currently no cure.

Lymphatic drainage massage (MLD) is used to treat conditions other than lymphoedema, RLD maybe used similarly. MLD may be useful with the following conditions:

  • Arthritis
  • Asthma
  • Eczema
  • Chronic fatigue
  • Fibromyalgia
  • ME
  • Sinus problems
  • Migraines
  • Head aches
  • Muscular tension

AROMAREFLEX

"Using essential oils to maintain/and or improve the health of the mind, body, spirit"
Shirley Price

AromaReflex is a combination of Reflexology and Aromatherapy. During your consultation, we decide on which oils suit your need most. I will then give you several options as its important you like the smell. I then blend the chosen oils with either a cream or wax. We use this to do the treatment, you take the rest home to use at your leisure.

I mainly use Neal's Yard essential oils. Essential oils are found in tiny glands on the outside, or deep inside the roots, wood, leaves, flowers, or fruits. One-way essential oils enter the body is through absorption.

I currently use 12 essential oils within my Aromaflex treatments. The benefits of these oils are endless so here is just a taster about what the oils support:

Lemon – Uplifting, anti-viral, antiseptic.
Lavender – A good allrounder from skin, digestion, sleep.
Peppermint – Refreshing and good for headaches.
Tee tree – Stimulating, good for shock, general fatigue.
Sweet Orange – Great for children, immune and digestive system.
Juniper Berry – Good detoxifier, cleansing.
Geranium – Hormone balancer, uplifting, oedema.
Sweet Marjoram – Pain, aching muscles, warming, and comforting.
Rosemary - MS /Fibromyalgia, respiratory system, and concentration.
Cedarwood – Stress and tension.
Frankincense – Anti-inflammatory, relaxation, great for skin.
Rose – Spiritual, uplifting, good for hormones.

MINDFULNESS REFLEXOLOGY

One of my favourite treatments. Mindfulness aims to achieve a relaxed non-judgemental awareness of thoughts, feelings, and sensations. Looking at ways we can support clients who are living with stress, anxiety, and depression, aiming to target specific reflexes that are key for supporting emotional well-being.

This treatment involves the lower legs as well as the feet and an optional guided meditation at the start of treatment.

Benefits of Mindfulness:

  • Learning the skill of responding rather than reacting.
  • Better able to cope with stresses/uncertainties of life.
  • Promotes kindness towards yourself and others.
  • Improved sleep and ability to relax.

NEPIP

Neurology – the study of the nervous system.
Endocrinology – the study of the Endocrine system.
Psychology – the study of mind and behaviour.
Immunology – the study of immune system.
Pody - means “feet” in Greek

Energy follows thought. Focusing on the body systems that are most affected by the stress response this treatment involves guided intentions which are shared with the client.

NEPIP can feel spiritual, very healing and calming, some say it feels like a yoga session with mind and body working together.

HAND REFLEXOLOGY

Hand reflexology is a very relaxing treatment it can be used on its own or incorporated into other treatments. As an added treat I use Neal's Yard products to start and finish treatment. I very often use it in aftercare advice, for example if a client had anxiety I would show them how to work the solar plexus and diaphragm so they could use these techniques on themselves in everyday life or when feeling anxious.

Treating the hands can be an alternative for those with very ticklish or sensitive feet or have injuries on the feet. It is a very accessible treatment and useful for self-treatment for example stressful situation, headaches or for use on an airplane for travel sickness.

Hand Reflexology can be done anywhere but in my treatment room I generally use the Lafuma chair for added relaxation.

 REIKI   REIKI

REIKI

(Pronounced ray-key)

Meaning universal life force. Energy is part of everything and in everyone. Reiki is a non-intrusive therapy. It will support positive choices promoting a feeling of deep relaxation, enabling a greater inner harmony, balance and well-being. Reiki works wherever you need it most, gently releasing blocked energies and toxins, creating a state of harmony and balance within mind, body and spirit.

Reiki healing treatments will start with an initial consultation to discuss medical issues and any issues relevant. Treatments take place on the couch, you remain fully clothed, with a blanket if you wish, treatments are carried out by placing hands on or over the body.

What is Reiki?

Reiki is a very gentle, non-invasive healing technique, carried out by a specifically trained practitioner placing their hands on or over a person with the intent to channel Reiki energy. It can also be sent as absent healing, over a distance and even through time. Reiki is not a form of massage and no manipulation takes place, the practitioner will simply place their hands on or near the body, as the energy flows through them.

Questions.

  • Why would I need Reiki?
  • How does Reiki work?
  • How can Reiki help you?
  • The treatment - what happens?
  • What does Reiki feel like?

  • Why would I need Reiki?

Why would I need Reiki?

People are born with the natural ability to heal and repair themselves, which is suppressed when they become energetically out of balance. When energetic blockages build up, due to stress in one form or another, the flow of vital energy around the body is disrupted. This impacts on the effectiveness and efficiency of all systems of the body and the immune system is also weakened, leaving them vulnerable to illness and disease.

How does Reiki Work?

Reiki works by clearing energetic blockages and restoring the natural energy flow around the body by re-balancing the major energy centres, commonly known as the chakras. This is achieved by a Reiki practitioner channelling a flow of universal life force energy through their hands to the recipient, which stimulates their natural healing ability, giving them a calming, relaxing and peaceful experience.

How can Reiki help you?

Reiki is beneficial in helping with an overall feeling of well-being or a specific injury or illness such as: Stress, Anxiety, Panic Attacks, Depression, Asthma, Eczema, Headaches, Sciatica, Back Pain, Joint Pain, Muscle Pain, Arthritis, Fibromyalgia, IBS, Digestive Disorders, Sports Injuries, Post-Operative Recovery and during mentally and emotionally difficult times such as bereavement. Our experience is that Reiki is extremely effective in helping newly diagnosed cancer patients manage their fear. When used alongside conventional medicine in cancer support and palliative care, we have found it can also help patients to cope better with the physical and emotional effects of their condition.

The Treatment - what happens

To begin with, you will have a consultation with the practitioner to discuss how you are feeling, what your situation is, and what you hope to achieve. Your Reiki treatment will be carried out on our luxury couch in a warm, quiet, peaceful, and safe space enabling you to feel, comfortable and at ease. You will remain fully clothed during the treatment except for shoes and jewellery.

The practitioner will place their hands in various positions, directly on the body or hovering above. The hands are held for approximately three minutes in each place before moving onto the next one. The positions used may be a set of fixed positions that the practitioner always uses or they may use their intuition to guide them on what will work best.

Your first session will last about 90 minutes, allowing time for the consultation and for you to enjoy the treatment without feeling rushed, subsequent treatments will last about an hour.

What does Reiki feel like?

It is hard to say how each individual will feel during a Reiki treatment as we are all different. However, it is possible that you may experience any of the following sensations: a feeling of euphoria, heaviness, warmth, waves of soothing energy, tingling or see bright lights or colours. Some people experience an emotional release and others feel nothing at all, but this does not mean that the Reiki is ineffective.

How often do I need a treatment?

The benefits of Reiki can be experienced after just one treatment. For a positive effect on long term health problems, it is most likely that a course of treatments will be required. We recommend having treatments on a regular basis to support you in maintaining good health and a feeling of well-being. I have various packages tailored to suit your needs but can create a personal and flexible plan for you if required.

ABOUT   ME

On leaving college with an Advanced Qualification in Health and Social Care, I worked at a nursing home and then in the community in Adult Social Care. I became a mum at 21 and again 3 years later. I had two daughters Beth and Emily and while they were growing up, I mainly worked with horses until 2013 when I decided to pursue the career I had always wanted within Holistic Care. Admittedly there have been a few ups and downs but I’m still here to tell the tale!

I first came across Aromatherapy as a young girl. I collected weekly magazines which had a different bottle of essential oil each week! I have loved them ever since. I believe Reiki found me just before needing it the most. I went from having never heard of it to training over several years which lead to me supporting myself, several family friends and clients. It’s a difficult one to explain but when people try it, they love it. I love using this with horses too, such a special therapy.

I believe life is like a roller coaster with its ups and downs, and then total upside downs. The start to my Reflexology journey was one of the total upside downs in my life. 2014 gave us, myself and my husband, a double dose of loss & grief and the hardest thing was not being able to “make it better”. People cope in different ways with all sorts of problems, not only through grief. Later that year I discovered Reflexology, again it seemed to find me. I started Reflexology treatments with a lovely lady in Whitchurch. You see my answer to grief was to work and work so hard I didn't have to think about how I was feeling, just carry on and not think about it. But then in December 2014 I had a fall off my horse which forced me to stop, rest and think about how I was feeling. I had put my pelvis out so I had no choice but to stop and deal with my feelings. Reflexology gave me strength. It gave me the nurture that I needed.

I have a passion for the holistic way of life. Reflexology, Reiki and Aromatherapy have made a massive difference in my life. I hope to start making a difference and providing support in my clients' lives too.

“ I started having reiki with Sarah in 2013, with having a busy large family it was my time to relax! I felt I had so much more energy and was a lot more relaxed after having the treatments. I continued to have reiki through my pregnancy which I felt helped with my exhaustion, nausea and back pain I was having. I was very excited when Sarah qualified as a Reflexologist, I enjoy my treatments and my children have also been and had treatments with Sarah too! She is brilliant with the children, my 7 year old so was anxious about his first session but as soon as he was in Sarah’s treatment room talking to Sarah who explained everything to him he absolutely loved it, at his next session was desperate to be the first one to go. I have had many treatments with Sarah, I manage to go for a reflexology treatment every fortnight. After the treatments I feel very relaxed and refreshed. Highly recommended ”

“Sarah s Reflexology has helped so much. After my illness my feet and ankles were quite bad when I came out of hospital, she really relaxed me, made me feel very good and looked after me. Always look forward to seeing Sarah every week. She has got a very good attitude towards her job and she’s a pleasure to be with. ”

COVID19

I hope that you will barely notice any difference in your treatments or in my treatment room as much of what I am required to do I was already doing before the new guidance was issued. However, to ensure we both feel safe and comfortable, there are a few changes I am required to put in place. These are summarised below, followed by a button to a more in-depth explanation. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you would like to talk about any element of this in more detail.

Covid-19 Detailed Guidance

Making an appointment

  • You can make an appointment providing you are not symptomatic of Covid-19 or any other infection for the past 14 days.
  • You cannot make an appointment if you have had any foreign travel within 14 days or live with anyone symptomatic as you should be self-isolating for 14 days.

Consultations

  • The day before your appointment I will call you to work through the questionnaire, discuss your health and well-being needs, and will answer any questions you have about your treatment. Where the appointment is for a child, this will be carried out with their chaperone. This is to help reduce the amount of face to face time in the treatment room.
  • As part of every pre-appointment consultation I will ask you the following questions:
  1. Have you had the recent onset of a new continuous cough?
  2. Do you have a high temperature?
  3. Have you noticed a loss of or a change in normal sense of taste or smell?
  4. Have you had any foreign travel within the last 14 days?
  5. Do you live with anyone who is symptomatic of Covid?

If any of these are a ‘yes’ then, no matter how mild your symptoms, we will reschedule your appointment. Please note there will be no cancellation fee.

  • For subsequent appointments, the same procedure will apply and will be focused on changes that have occurred since your last appointment and any new information that you need to tell me.

Your appointment

  • Your appointment will last around 60 minutes.
  • Please arrive no more than 5 minutes early for your appointment.
  • The door will be open for you walk straight into the treatment room.
  • When you arrive for your appointment you will be asked to apply hand sanitiser. This will be provided for you.

Protective personal equipment

  • There is now a requirement for you to wear a face covering.
  • I am required to wear a full-face visor for Reiki treatments, and a face mask for foot Reflexology. I am not required to wear gloves.

Cleaning and hygiene

  • I will be operating a 30-minute break between appointments in order to ensure that I have time to write up my notes from the previous client, that the room is thoroughly cleaned prior to your arrival, and that there is no cross-over between clients.
  • All of my couches, treatment chairs, pillows and bolsters are wipeable, and any linens (including blankets) used will be changed between each client and washed and dried according to government guidelines.
  • Please note: If you do not want any soft coverings these can be removed prior to your appointment. I will check your requirements during our consultation.
  • The government guidelines are clear that all surfaces should be cleaned with soap and water. As an added layer of protection, I will also be using Dew Disinfect and Hand Sanitiser products which are free from harsh chemicals, cruelty-free, and vegan friendly, and are more effective than bleach.
